Shape A Surfboard In College

Surfboard shaping at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

I wish this surfboard shaping class was available while I was attending California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA. I took some really fun and intellectually challenging classes while at Cal Poly, but none were as fun as my bowling class. Ok, I have to admit that I took bowling 3 different times while in college and never missed a class. Yes, bowling is a little different than surfboard making, but this was the one class that nobody wanted to skip. I got 1 college unit per class, an improved curve ball, and an awesome handicap. The only thing different with the new Cal Poly surfboard shaping class is that the students do not earn college credits and you can not really get a surfboard shaping handicap.

Cal Poly’s surfboard shaping program was recently recognized by The Surfer’s Journal and the magazine will be running an article sometime this fall. Read the Mustang Daily newspaper article.

The surfboard class is offered through Cal Poly and the ASI, Associated Student Inc, Craft Center. ASI offers the class to students and non-students. The price for students is $150 and $190 for non-students. More Craft Center surfboard shaping info.

Check out this cool video on the ASI Craft Center and their surfboard shaping class.

If you are ever in the San Luis Obispo area, make sure you stop into the ASI Craft Center and craft your own surfboard. Click here to shape your own surfboard.
