Wow! Believe it or not, but Andy Irons will not surf on the 2009 ASP World Surfing Tour.  Andy has decided to take the surfing tour year off.  He wants to chase swells, take surf trips with friends and re-focus on his life and relationships.

Andy has been on the ASP World Tour for 12 years and it looks like he needs a rest from the grueling tour.  He has won 3 ASP World Titles and won multiple surfing events.  He might enter a few select 2009 events as a wild-card and will have an automatic place on the 2010 ASP World Tour.  Andy will not have to requalify on the WQS Tour.

Last year Andy’s brother, Bruce Irons, annouced his retirment from the ASP World Tour.  Although Bruce retired, I think Andy will be back for the 2010 ASP World Tour.

The swell forecasters are predicting more California swell this weekend and into early next week.  Thank goodness for winter storms!  There is another good storm coming in behind the current California storm.

These surf photos were taken right before I paddled out.  The tide was rising and the waves got bigger and better with more tide.

If you are a surfer like me then you can relate to not having your camera ready on those epic days. I like to bring along my camera when I go surfing, but sometimes I manage to forget it.

Luckily I remembered my camera yesterday and got some nice photos of Sunset Cliffs (San Diego, CA) firing while the Southern California weekend swell rolled through town.

I will post some surfing pictures of the spot I surfed on Sunday. I surfed at a reef spot called Osprey.

Wow, I need to surf again soon! I haven’t surfed since the Saturday after Christmas.  My friends and I happened to score some left over storm surf at Carmel Beach (11th street) that Saturday after Christmas.  All the Holidays, California rain and work definitely got in the way.  There is supposed to be some swell right now, but I will miss that swell too.  Time to go look at the forecasts and find out when I should surf again.
