Mr. Parker: [Reading Telegram and doing a little jig] Tonight! Tonight! It’s coming Tonight! Tonight! Tonight! Tonight! Hot Damn, Tonight!

[Mr. Parker reads a side of the box with the prize that he won]
Mr. Parker: Fra-gee-lay. That must be Italian.
Mrs. Parker: Uh, I think that says FRAGILE, dear.
Mr. Parker: Oh, yeah.

Mr. Parker: [unveiling his major award] Would you look at that? Would you look at THAT?
Mother: What is it?
Mr. Parker: It’s a leg!
Mother: But what is it?

Congrats Mick Fanning!

December 14th, 2009 by Adam

Mick Fanning (AUS), has been crowned the 2009 ASP World Champion, following an excellent showing at the Banzai Pipeline over the weekend. The 28 year-old has claimed his 2nd ASP World Surfing Title! Great job Mick! The Banzai Pipeline was the last event on the ASP 2009 World Tour and Mick beat out his fellow mate, Joel Parkinson, to claim the crown. Not only did he wrap up the 2009 ASP World Title, Mick also took home a sweet $50,000 from the Vans Triple Crown bonus package. That will be a nice bonus to add to his 2009 tour earnings of $235,000. Not bad for 10 months of work this year!

Here are Mick’s 2009 ASP World Tour results:

Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast: Equal 3rd
Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach: Equal 5th
Billabong Pro Teahupoo: Equal 9th

I Didn’t Make The Wheel Of Fortune Cut

February 5th, 2009 by Adam

Oh well, I didn’t make the final cut at the Wheel of Fortune tryouts.  The audition was almost 2 hours long and there were about 70 people total.  I had high hopes of being the next Wheel of Fortune superstar, but I guess I wasn’t good enough.

There were 4 Wheel of Fortune ”coaches” there choosing who made the cut and who didn’t.  The audition was in a medium sized hotel  conference room and the contestants all had their own chairs. There was a digital puzzle on a projection screen in front of the room and the contestants were called on randomly to solve the puzzles.  The contestants had to stand up where they were seated, choose a consonant, choose if they wanted to spin or pick a vowel, and then decide if they wanted to solve.  One of the WoF employees would spin the wheel, 2 coaches would look at us and judge us, and the other one would put up the chosen letters on the screen.  Each potential contestant only had 2 chances to “try out.”  About 3 seconds if you yelled out an incorrect letter and about 1 minute if you got a few letters in a row.  After the projection screen puzzle solving, we were given a 5 minute written puzzle exam.  We had 16 partially filled out puzzles and had to solve them in 5 minutes.  Make that 5 very quick minutes.  I filled out 5-6 puzzles and only filled in the other partial puzzles.

After the exams and mock digital puzzles, the coaches came back into the room and read off the names of the winning contestants.  Needless to say, I was not on the “Made It” contestant list.  Too bad, so sad.  Now I have to wait a full year before I can try out again.

I Am Trying Out For The Wheel Of Fortune

February 3rd, 2009 by Adam

Just a heads up…I am off on my Big Adventure tonight.  I will be away from The Surf Blog Spot for a couple days because I am auditioning for the most watched syndicated program since May 1984.  Hopefully I will make it all the way to Pat Sajak and Vanna White!!  That’s right, I am auditioning for the famous Wheel of Fortune.

I received an email last week for an audition spot on February 4.  The tryouts are in Culver City, CA and the audition will last 1-3 hours. I won’t know until the end of the audition if I made it or not.  Wish me luck!!

Does anybody have any strategies or insider tips?

Sign up for the Wheel of Fortune!!

I need to surf again!

January 5th, 2009 by Adam

Wow, I need to surf again soon! I haven’t surfed since the Saturday after Christmas.  My friends and I happened to score some left over storm surf at Carmel Beach (11th street) that Saturday after Christmas.  All the Holidays, California rain and work definitely got in the way.  There is supposed to be some swell right now, but I will miss that swell too.  Time to go look at the forecasts and find out when I should surf again.

What Is Wrong With The San Diego Chargers?

December 1st, 2008 by Adam

I live, work, and surf in San Diego.  I am also a huge San Diego Chargers fan.  If you have ever visited San Diego, then you know that the county is huge.  The county has a geographic area of 4,200 square miles and about 3 million people live here.  The county is approximately the size of Connecticut.  You will also notice that San Diego County has 70 miles of Pacific Ocean coastline.  That many miles of coastline equals that many surf spots.

Since there are so many surf spots in this huge county, I find myself driving around checking the local surf spots.  Most of the time I have my radio on and I am listening to the local sports talk radio.  So I hear all of the Chargers smack talk and discouragement.

Listening to or watching Chargers game this year is very tough.  They have lost 4 games in the last 24 seconds.  Their defense is horrible (compared to last year).  LT is not the same LT.  Listening to the Chargers game yesterday was embarrassing.  They played the Atlanta Falcons and Michael “The Burner” Turner proved San Diego wrong.  We should have kept him.  What is wrong with this once All-Star Chargers team?  They can not cover anybody and their offense is sooooo predictable.

What is wrong with this team?? Send a comment if you want to vent!

I guess we can all look forward to the San Diego Padres season………
