Slater vs Irons in the 2006 Pipeline Masters Finals!

Kelly Slater made surfing history by clinching his 10th ASP World Title! What a surfing machine! Slater is 38 years young, has been surfing on the ASP World Tour for 20 years and scored “a perfect 10″ championship at Puerto Rico’s Rip Curl Pro Search. What a nice round number for his number of world titles. Congrats Slater (again)!

Slater advanced out of the Quarterfinals today over Brazilian, Adriano de Souza. This advancement allowed Slater to lock in his 10th world title. Jordy Smith, the 2nd place surfer on the tour, can no longer catch Slats! Will he go for an 11th title?

ASP World Tour Rankings: 2010 ASP Rankings

Andy Irons, a 3 time ASP World Champion, died today in his Dallas hotel room. He became seriously ill from reportedly, dengue fever, which he contracted at the previous surfing contest held in Portugal. He pulled out of the Rip Curl Search Pro in Puerto Rico because of his illness. Andy won the ASP World Surfing Tour Title 3 years in a row and he was the only ASP surfer to win at every ASP tour stop.

Andy leaves behind his pregnant wife, Lyndie, and his younger brother, Bruce. Lyndie is due to give birth to their first child, a son, this December. This is totally sad and so devastating to his family, friends and fellow surfers.

We will miss you Andy and the entire surfing world will mourn your loss.

The 2nd stop on the 2010 ASP World Surfing Tour is the Bells Beach, Victoria-Australia Rip Curl Pro. The men’s Rip Curl Pro runs from March 30-April 10, 2010. The women’s Rip Curl Pro runs from March 30-April 5, 2010. Taj Burrow won the 1st 2010 tour stop at the Quiksilver Pro and he will look to gain more points on the 2009 ASP World Tour champion, Mick Fanning.

That somewhere will be Stop 6 on the ASP World Tour and will start “somewhere” in Indonesia.  The opening day of the contest will begin July 30 and last until August 10.  Surfing fans are waiting on edge for the exact location.  The event directors and surf forecasters (Surfline) have a spot in mind, but that will not be disclosed until the first heat is underway.  Log onto the Rip Curl Pro Search website to see exactly where Kelly Slater and other top ASP surfers will battle.  Watch the event live on the Rip Curl Pro Seach webcast and see your favorite pictures from the event.
